Malaysia is a country of its own people! It is not from Singapore, neither is it in Miami.. That’s what someone told his friends in America and they actually bought it. And I don’t blame people who have never heard of Malaysia because truth is, we only have ourselves to blame. How come Singapore reached development achievements and worldwide recognition successfully and we’re still stuck at “developing nation”? Singapore isn’t exactly multiracial because most of the citizens are Chinese and other races are totally outnumbered yet they are known globally.

We have beautiful beaches, we have many races living together under one roof, we have sky-high buildings, yet people are in shock when they find out about us. It’s not like the people here don’t English, it’s not like our politicians don’t go on political trips overseas to tighten political bonds, it’s not like the people here are uncivilised or still living on trees. But how come we’re not as recognised as our neighbour countries? Indonesia and Thailand are probably more famous than Malaysia.

Our architectural development may be on a rapid growth as years pass by but I believe the mentality that we possess is still very undeveloped. There is still too much of corruption around the country making it difficult for us to achieve world class condition for the people to live. There is a reason why there are so many Malaysians migrating each year. There is a reason why people prefer their children completing studies overseas so that they will be able to find a job and settle there.

Malaysia is a beautiful country, with great food and gorgeous people as well. But there are many cracks underneath it all that have been left unfixed for a very long time and it will only keep getting worst.

I was a tourist for a day.

Visited:

Batu Caves – Expected more. The cave was practically empty I thought there would be more figurines or carvings. Not very clean if you ask me, considering you’d want to impress sightseers at a place like this.

The stairs were really tiring but very good workout! It’s so cool (chilly) in there. And so many monkeys!

National Museum – Very interesting although most of what you can find there can also be found in high school history textbooks. Funny how most of the findings were not excavated by locals but foreigners instead.

Went for the Coffin Exhibition as well but it was such a disappointment. They placed a few wooden boxes there and call it an exhibition. Not imposing at all. I was anticipating some spooky moments.

National Mosque – We got to the entrance only to discover we were 15 minutes late, they close at noon and only reopens at 3pm. If you are a non-Muslim female, you will most likely be asked to put on a robe (provided) before you can enter. For males, you will not need it only if you have long pants on.

One can only imagine how hygienic those robes are. Such a turn-off. I was actually quite relieved to find it closed for tourists/non-Muslims.

Central Market – The last time I stepped foot there, probably back in high school. But tremendous changes have been made, much cleaner and better air-conditioners lol. Prices are cutthroat if you’ve got no existing bargaining skills. Well it’s a tourist hot spot so yeah. Didnt get anything though.

Went to all of the above with my cousin and uncle who became our driver for the day hahah.

In the late evening, met up with my girlfriends for our regular dinner followed by chill out session. At almost midnight, went to a night market/bazaar located at Titiwangsa to accompany a friend.

My first time to a place of that kind and I do not wish to repeat it. Let’s just say the people there are not the most civilised people around plus it was dodgy and creepy. Oh well, at least I have the experience now.
