I enjoy driving through Penchala Link very much. It gives me peace. It allows me to think and there’s no pressure at all.
When it comes to driving, I never really had much patience in me at first. It was dad and the Garbage Truck Law that made me wiser. Dad would always advise me to give way to people, and he doesn’t really encourage the use of the car honk unless necessary. The Garbage Truck Law taught me how to be more giving and it is us that actually benefit from it. The satisfaction and sense of contentment when you know you are being kind to others.
But I’ve noticed so many things about Malaysian drivers. Is it such a hassle to turn your indicators/signals on when you want to change lanes? It’s the least you can do instead of just swerving into another lane without any notice. That’s how accidents happen and then you go all “you should have seen me coming!” I’d give you the benefit of doubt, say your signals are out of service. You can always give a hand gesture, no?
If you have your signals on, I’d always give you way. But most of them don’t bother saying thanks, they don’t even look at you. Not that I mind, I don’t expect anything in return. But it’s the courtesy you see. I always say thanks when I’m given way on the road. You should try it, I’m sure you’d like it when people do the same to you.
If you have no signals on and you try to squeeze your car in front of me, then I’m sorry I wouldn’t give you way no matter what. When there is a long queue, you come from the back and try to make your way in right at the front of the line, that’s already bad enough. But plus without your signals on, that’s just plain rude.
And people who double park. I get it, looking for a parking can be a bitch. Like how people double park in front of Nirwana’s? That’s because they’re gonna be in Nirwana’s, or a shop on the same row. You don’t double park at Nirwana’s then go off to La Bodega or something now, do you? Because that’s just plain stupid and you can expect to see your car with scratches when you come back. Especially when your car is disturbing the traffic and it causes all kinds of chaos. While you on the other hand, is having a good time being ignorant.
Then there are the pedestrians. You don’t walk when the light is red. That’s why there are traffic lights to guide you. You don’t expect cars to stop for you so that you can make your grand walk across the road. You don’t own the road, and we don’t owe you anything okay?
What really pissed me off was when I had to stop to let this middle-aged man walk pass in front of my car, in the middle of the road. And while he took his slow lovely walk, he could manage a cock stare and there were no thanks gesture. I’m thankful I was still sane and did not run over him, because he totally deserve something like that happening to him.
I’m not even done yet. You know how you sometimes wait for a car to come out of its parking so that you can have it, but you wait in front rather than behind that car? And then some sort of jackass comes from behind and just go right in and takes your parking before you even have the time to release your brakes to reverse. Where are your bloody manners man?! How would you like it if someone does that to you?
Oh, and I can’t stand motorcycle riders who drive right in the middle of the road. If motorbikes were meant to be in the middle of the road, there would have been a mini thin road meant for them in the middle of the road. There are no mini roads for you guys, so please proceed to the side of the road and ride safely okay? It’s annoying enough when you do so, but maybe you did so without realising it. So when a car is driving close up behind you, you should get the idea and move aside, not carry on having your little slow evening ride.
Lastly, call me OCD or whatever but I also can’t stand cars who don’t keep to their lanes. Like when I’m in a car and the driver is moving out of the line a little, I get really uneasy. I mean, the lines are there for a reason, right? Hmm, you tell me.
