News article

I came up with a resolution last Friday. To study/revise every day except weekends. However I only started on Monday hehe, Day 3 and so far so good! Time consumption is irrelevant (I sound like Mr Gavin, my Management Acc lecturer omg), I aim to cover at least a chapter a day when it comes to reading and at least 3 questions a day when it comes to calculations (which is not little btw). Did my math, will take about 2hours a day.

Ever since the semester started, the parents have been giving me the “talk”. Like how it’s my last year and it’s now or never. Lots of money have been invested, lots more to be invested haha. Being the elder child, I think they have higher expectations of me. No pressure, just hopeful thinking. And I’d like to see it as a dream come true for Mum & Dad. Well of course I’m getting a degree, but when and what (meaning what class: first, second upper, etc) play a crucial factor.

I think I’m very fortunate to be given a chance to pursue higher education in a private institution and it’s all paid for. I don’t get to study abroad but I’m graduating with a foreign degree anyway (UK to be exact, I’m doing a 3+0 degree). I do not have to work part-time to support my studies or personal finances. In a nutshell, I always had/have it easy. I am always grateful for that because I know many people are less fortunate.

So, I’m determined to make this work. Only less than ten weeks left of studying till this semester ends and it’s never too late! I have every single thing I need, all that is left is my own perseverance. Yes I’m very semangat-ed :D

Anyway, of late
there have been plenty of similar reports being featured in the newspapers and the Internet. The Tiger Woods saga which I think has finally subsided. Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy court case which is so yesterday. Jack Neo’s extra-marital affair with a young model (and it is reported today that another woman has come forward accusing him of trying to woo her and when she rejected him, her acting career did not bloom). Latest one, Swami Nithyananda’s (spiritual/religious leader) leaked sex video with a Tamil actress.

They score front pages, huge-ass headlines, tremendously long paragraphs. Why? Because people love it when scandals like these about other people come about. Especially when it’s someone prominent.

What I don’t get is people who judge critically. Yes we all talk about them because they are in the limelight. We pass around personal judgments that these people are a discomfiture, they are jerks, and what not. My personal opinion is that, these people are ordinary people too. Yes, they made a horrible mistake. Yes, they ought to be looked at differently now that everything is in the open. But in some cases, there is no solid proof. Before getting your facts right, try not to spread what is not true. Plus it’s none of your business.

There are loads of people who make sex videos. Only difference is this fella here is unlucky because his was exposed. Many engage in anal sex. Only dissimilarity is they keep it a secret and no one found out yet. Lots of people cheat on their spouses. Only difference is they are not well known and they don’t appear on national/world news.

I don’t think any of them owe the public any apology. The only people these people have to apologise to are their family members, partners, and children, or anyone else who is actually involved in the whole scenario. Because, what have they done wrong to you? So I don’t get people who go around saying “I would never forgive Tiger Woods” or “What kind of spiritual leader is this?”. Spiritual leaders are prohibited from having sex is it?

The thing is, all these are not abnormal. Just because their lives are constantly under the scrutiny of paparazzi, they pay a higher price. Reporters cannot be blamed because it’s their job to search for big scoops. The mistresses cannot be blamed for public revelation because they seek justice. Of course if those people never committed these actions in the first place, nothing would have happened.

But if you happen to have done something like that, how would you like being treated with all the “attention” these people I have mentioned above are getting/have gotten?

Same-sex marriage, interracial relationships, huge age gap between two lovers, open relationships, etc.

Same thing applies, whatever these people want to do with their lives or with anyone else is really none of your concern. It does not have anything to do with you in any way. Sure we can have differing opinions when it comes to every single thing under the Sun but really, people can do without your criticisms.

Instead you could allocate your energy and time on far more vital issues such as global warming, pollution, world peace, human and animal rights, etc.

The world would be a much better place.

I Can Read

I came across so many funny as well as shocking news recently. John Terry cheated on his wife with his best friend’s then girlfriend. Shocking.

A dad in China chains his son to a tree while he works. He said it is to make sure his son is safe, his daughter was abducted a month ago meanwhile his wife is too ill. I know it sounds sad but a little part of me find it funny. He tied his son to a tree!

A banker in Australia was caught looking at porn on news channel. FUNNY! What an idiot. He was oblivious until when he finally turned around to the recorder and realised he had been caught. Hahahahah.

And I just found out that our “famous” 1Malaysia slogan, it’s not even original. Singapore announced “1People 1Nation 1Singapore” a few years ago. There was even a song. Hmmm.

And one of the Prime Minister’s special officers who have recently resigned due to his public racist outburst, no ISA? Erm, so unfair right?

Pfft.

Currently listening to: Don’t Look Back in Anger by Oasis.

Huge relief off my chest, only one assignment left. A little tricky this one, but I think we’ll manage :) And then it’s finals, woohoo.

For Moral, I did a piece based on an article about Nadya Suleman. She is the woman who gave birth to octuplets, even though she already has six children all below the age of seven. Now that’s a very controversial issue don’t you think? I thought it would make a great article, because we’re supposed to choose two articles to write on and relate them to moral theories we learn in class.

So of course there’s always two sides in a story, those who are pro-choice would say it is entirely her right to choose what she wants for life, based on Moral it is called the Existentialism theory heheh. So yea, there are also others who think that it was a very selfish act because she is a single parent who is living with her parents, and she now has 14 young children to look after. She’s unemployed and not financially independent, you can say she’s struggling to make ends meet.

That is why they say she is putting the lives of her children in jeopardy, she’s going to need a lot of financial support to bring them up, for their education, as well as other needs. Some put the blame on her doctor who implanted several embryos in her, which is far more than the national guidelines.

So what is your stand? I personally think she is an adult who is fully capable of making her own choices. Whether right or wrong, it is to be decided by her. Sure, people will always have their opinions and comments but it all comes down to her rights. We can all judge, but no one can tell her what to do wouldn’t you say so?

Another article was chosen by my groupmate Leonard, on abortion. Again, pro-choice. I don’t think it should be seen as a form of killing if the circumstances can be justified. If it endangers the mother’s life, or if the mother is not going to be capable of bringing the child up (whether mentally/financially), it seems like a pretty good decision to me.

Basically, I think that in whatever situation a person faces, the choice should always be given to that particular individual. I know abortion is illegal in many countries including ours and there are many religious beliefs and customs that are against issues like these, but we at least deserve the right to make a decision we think is best for ourselves, no?

Anyways there was a warehouse sale at Cineleisure! Adidas items mostly, dirt cheap! Had lunch at Paddington House of Pancakes, nothing special lah. I think it would be best to go there only for desserts.

I finally had the time to watch an episode of Fringe, SO COOL!! Can’t wait to watch every single one of them, very interesting.

I should probably get some sleep now, gotta wake up at 7am. But don’t know why I’m still feeling all pumped up hahahah.

No we’re not perfect, but we’re only a little lesser than that.

Verrryy long post ahead!

Had lunch at this newly-opened (only a month old) restaurant that serves American food today, located at Damansara.

The owners (husband&wife) are very friendly and I particularly love their wall frames.

So pretty right?

And the ones below are just too cute I had to take a picture of them! The many photos of pigs, oink oink.

Also, their tables are named according to the many states in America, how creative! We had lunch at Michigan today! :D Hahahah.

But they only have 13 tables and during dinner time, the queue is madness. I guess there is no need for me to say that they serve good food :) Will definitely go back to try more of their dishes.

I’ve been catching up on local and world news, and I found some of them rather amusing.

There’s apparently this British lady who suffers from Persistent Sexual Arousal Syndrome, where she craves for sex and can climax anytime, as the disease name suggests. I don’t know bout you, but I really feel sorry for her. Imagine how you can’t live life like a normal person, there was even once she had an orgasm in front of a very persistent salesman who didn’t want to let her excuse herself (she knew it was coming), very embarrassing I must say. (Information taken from Malaysiatoday.com)

Well she did finally find a man whom she claims can keep up with her (up to 10times a day), after many many failed relationships due to her very demanding sex drive. I wish her all the best!

And then there’s this woman in India who filed for divorce because her husband forbids her from watching soap operas. And the best part is, the judge granted her a divorce because “it can be considered as a form of abuse”. Her husband also refuses to have sex with her, intimidates her as well as spat on her, so I guess those are pretty valid reasons for a divorce. (Information taken from The Star today)

Next up is this man who allegedly killed his wife in his dreams. Psychiatrists say that he has a sleeping disorder and he did so thinking he was fighting off intruders who wanted to harm both himself and his wife. This is very interesting I must say, the case is still ongoing. (Metro.co.uk)

But I saved the best for the last, our very own local news. I read something so ludicrous that it made me feel like I should be ashamed to call myself a Malaysian. Our Deputy Minister of Education stated that “conversing in English at workplace is harmful to the nation’s culture and identity” and “we should switch to BM to show pride in the national language“. He also claimed that speaking in English will pollute our culture and identity. (Patrick Teoh, Niamah.blogspot.com)

English is a worldwide language, a lingua franca. There are many ways to show pride and respect for our country, it certainly does not require the people to go backwards. It is like asking mankind to go back to living in caves.

Hope those news amused you as much as they amused me :)

Do one thing that scares you every day.

You know what, I need to learn Photoshop. I don’t know how to Photoshop. When I take photos and a zit or two is visible, I gotta take another shot because I can’t Photoshop. So yea, I need to learn how to Photoshop.

Oh I think I have tapeworms in my stomach. I get hungry every three hours or so it’s not even funny. The thought of it is really scary. It’s like you’re feeding something that grows in your stomach. How creepy is that?

I shall take the tablets when I’m free. Mum says I need to take them when I’m home so that I can have easy access when I need to poop hahah. Too bad I’m booked these next two weeks. Gonna feed you worms for now. Omg scratch that thought, gross.

Free flour giving in Pakistan triggered a stampede that killed at least 18 women.

It’s depressing when you read news like this, what poverty and desperation among the less fortunate can cause.

Underaged girls, as young as 12 sexually abused and raped by logging company workers in Penan.

What kind of beasts would do something like this to the vulnerable? These girls are determined to go to school even though the distance is estimated to be at least 3-4 hours away from their home, and these cold-blooded people took advantage of that.

And these are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the problems the whole world faces. Does it make you wonder?

The rich cut down on luxurious & lavish goods when the recession hits hard, what do the poor and desperate cut down on?

If the less fortunate continues to be taken advantage of, when will they develop? When will the world finally be a developed place for all?

And when will the individualism mentality finally switch to humanity?
