If you follow my updates on Twitter, you probably came across my updates regarding this topic. The boys were one of the chosen top 16 teams in Malaysia to take part in this invitation-only tournament on the 24th April. It was indeed a great opportunity because all the greatest teams in the country were there to take part and it was a great chance to see where they stand nationally.

The tournament took place at De Stadium, Subang. Something totally irrelevant: I think Subang has way too many traffic lights! If the amount were to be reduced by half, the time spent on the journey in and out of Subang will be reduced by half too!

Back to the topic, the boys did not win but I think they gave their best shot at it. I was there to watch them play and the other teams were really, really good. The team that won first place was the team U R MY BRO played in their very first round, their first game of the entire tournament. Winning is not everything, wanting to win and working hard towards that goal is what is important.

However I think the tournament was not very well planned. Only two courts were in use, and there were 16 teams. Each game was 20 minutes long. Every team had to wait for at least an hour before their next game could take place. That’s a little unfair if you ask me, not only for the players but also to the people who were there as supporters :P

But seriously, an hour is a long time. Players get lethargic or lose their momentum because you play for 20 minutes then you do nothing for an hour and your body starts to slow down then you expect it to pick up pace again for another 20 minutes and so on (repeat process for at least three times).

I can’t remember which tournament was it but there was one which I attended and the organising team was superb. Many courts were in use, referees were skilled and fair, every team got to their next game within half an hour. That way your process is swift and efficient, you also keep the players in the game.

Oh, not forgetting, we saw a stranger wearing a U R MY BRO shirt! It was awkward at first, wondering how did he get hold of the shirt. A little fan club going on there, ey? ;)

**Been changing themes, I really like this one! Might stick to this for a while :)

I’ve been asked to broadcast U R MY BRO futsal team on my blog, I can’t recall if I already did. But another one wouldn’t harm. Although I personally think it will not leave much impression because these boys, they’re already eminent in all North-South-East-West in Malaysia. Whenever any of them wears the team’s T-shirt out they get approached and sometimes, even praised.

So let’s see, U R MY BRO is the bigger picture. Some of them are segregated into another brother team – Backyard. A few of the boys are also in the college team (that includes my boyfriend!). Therefore whenever there are official matches available they usually send two teams – U R MY BRO and Backyard.

My belief: both are by the same token good. The basis why they send two teams is to well, try to secure both first place and second place. If you follow my updates on Twitter you’d know these boys have come a long long way and they have been vigorously participating in various tournaments not only in KL but in other states as well. And you’d also notice that they’ve been doing very well with remarkable growth and advancement.

As I mentioned earlier some of them play for the college team and the biggest intercollege tourney took place just a few days ago. They call it MAPCU. HELP comes first almost every year for boys’ futsal (fact, not exaggeration) however they had to settle for third place this year. But that’s alright because we all know how good these boys are and you can’t win every consecutive year ;)

Now back to U R MY BRO and Backyard. You see, what’s really distinctive about these two teams is that they are multiracial. Most teams out there are composed of only one, or two races tops. In these two teams, you can find all races + all religions. This is to prove that race does not determine teamwork. Religion does not restrict friendship. The boys are not only teammates, they are good friends outside the court and I reckon it perks up their understanding on the court.

Why U R MY BRO, why Backyard? Solely due to sponsors. The sponsor of U R MY BRO is a man who is keen on encouraging anti-racial hence the name. A very good one too if you ask me. As for Backyard, the sponsor is the shareholder of Backyard Pub. Occasionally the boys go by the name Sledgehammer/Hamlets as well. Another sponsor who owns a company called Sledgehammer.

It’s amazing that all these boys – they are like family. They share a bond so strong that you’d think they’re blood brothers if all of them looked the same. And the age group varies from 18 to 27. Another point made – age difference places no barrier. You can locate them on Facebook, under the names U R MY BRO & Backyard Team.

And some photos that capture some of their achievements.

Have not been having the urge to blog lately, hence the lack of updates. Life has been good, still good :) Plenty of replacement classes to be held soon due to excessive amount of class cancellations. Just found out it would be on two Saturdays, wait for it.. Wait for it..

9AM to 5PM!!

Sucks balls.

xxxxxxx

I attended an open house last night which was obviously the last one for the year 2010 and one of the guests there appeared to be Rexy Mainaky! He brought his family along as well and he’s such a cheery man in person. Always smiling and laughing. Well the only time I see him is on a tv live telecast and he can’t be all jolly during a live badminton game right. He even gestured to me at one point that he was really full and chuckled although we do not know each other, pleasant man.

For those who do not know, I’m not sure which planet you’re from but he’s one of the Malaysian badminton team coaches. To be precise, he coaches our men’s doubles. Thomas Cup and All-England are coming up real soon and I’m hoping we reach the top. Well let’s face it, the only opportunity for this country to shine in sports is badminton, aside from squash of course.

Oh, Happy Chap Goh Mei! Did you throw Mandarin oranges into the river? Hahahah.

Anyways I attended the charity futsal tournament organised by a few HELP students at Sports Plaza, PJ earlier today (I found my way there! If you follow my Twitter updates you would know why, I wasn’t very sure of the road. Although I did miss the turning but I did a U-turn further up the road and reached there without any problems :D ). This will be the futsal court I like the least because it’s extra warm there I don’t know why. Other futsal courts are hot as well but not as hot. Since I was free I decided to show up and give some support. (They always win when I’m present, seriously!)

U R MY BRO!

U R MY BRO sent two teams, both categorised into different groups and they managed to avoid each other right till the finals. Needless to say, they were both first place and first runner-up! I’d say it was worth all the sweat and heat heheh. This tournament was a mixed-tourney so each team had to have at least two girls playing in the court. Well you can say both the boys and girls are equally talented in U R MY BRO.

Since the objective was to raise funds for charity, there were no cash prizes. Instead there were hampers, Celebrity Fitness free passes (16 passes omg), plus discount vouchers for Chili’s Grill & Bar Restaurant. Good job boys and girls! Futsal is not my forte therefore my job includes taking pictures, provide encouragement, and show my pretty self. HAHAH just kidding.

*The rest of the photos will be uploaded on FB.

I’d like to just point out some of the issues when it comes to futsal, or any form of sports for that matter. I can’t stand sore losers. If you did not win, then accept the fact that your team is just not good enough and train harder to try again the next time. No point using dirty tactics to win because you’d lose your pride and dignity.

And also those who are so willing to start a fight. Sometimes in sports, unintentional actions happen. People get injured and people fall, if you can’t stand it then stay home and play with Barbie Dolls or Play Doh. There is no need to get all fumed up wanting to cause a scene. Especially those who are not even playing, they are more than eager to enter the court and start a fight whenever tension arises. So uncivilised. If you want to show off your fighting skills, go take up martial arts classes.

**Some people might think it makes them look all big and mighty by being vulgar whether verbally or physically but really, it just makes you look like a fool.

Slipped off my mind completely to blog about the boys’ futsal tournament at Pavilion last weekend! The event was called Clear Men Sports Showdown after Sundown. It was a 36-hour event, Saturday was for group stages and Sunday started off with quarterfinals. U R My Bro sent two teams, Team A made it all the way to finals! Winners are rewarded with tickets to Madrid and stand a chance to meet Cristiano Ronaldo in person. Very unfortunate that it ended with penalty shoot outs, and the boys were only a kick away from Spain.

Penalty kicks are really not an ideal way to determine a player/a team’s abilities if you ask me. It’s always a 50-50 shot and even the greatest players would sometimes miss a shot or two. Which is why I think they should not be too hard on themselves. But I know all of them are still suffering from tremendous heartaches, hahah. It’s Madrid and the best player in the world we’re talking about here!

However, it was great exposure and experience for the team. This tournament had great and the best futsal teams from all over the country participating so the name U R My Bro is definitely at the mouths and ears of most futsal players countrywide by now. They have only started playing together as a team a year ago, so this is really quite an accomplishment.

They were interviewed by the tv crew and it will be aired tomorrow (Tuesday) on Chanel 811 from 9pm-10pm. They will also be featured in The Star newspaper if I’m not mistaken. They were the underdogs and no one really expected them to reach finals. Look how far they’ve come, I’m sure there are many many more great opportunities to come for them. They’ve proved themselves well, excellent job boys! :D And I’m personally very proud of you Mr R, now get your ass to studying! I wasn’t there this time, had to study for Financial Acc paper, which went well today! I hope.

One thing about kid brother and I, the parents have very different things to say when it comes to studying. To him, they’d be like don’t study too hard. When it comes to me, they’d go no need to study for exams? HAHAHAH. They only see me with books a week before finals. I have focusing issues, I tend to get distracted easily. Well, a week before finals is still not TOO late.

Alright, it’s crunch time! BYEEE.

I have decided. I have made up my mind. I made myself a promise I’m not gonna break this time.

I shall stop shopping online. For real.

Online shopping is for the weak!! Hahah, just kidding. But I’ve done some thinking and I think it’s best I leave this habit behind. Better to spend more on something which has better quality than on many many cheap (price wise) items.

Anyways, I was at HTO, Subang on Sunday to watch the boys (U R My Bro) play in this tournament called Smells like Teen Spirit or something like that. Champions yo, don’t mess. I’m so proud to be one of the bros, heheh I even have the team T-shirt but Mr R stole it from me because his wasn’t dry yet pfft (mine is men’s size M btw).

Kudos to every member of the team because all of them played so well, top notch performance. Especially Brad who was superb even with a finger injury (he’s the keeper). I had fun :D Keep up the good job!

Since the last time I went with them for a tournament I was starving while waiting for them to finish, I prepared myself with two roti canais for breakfast and equipped myself with tidbits hahah. But I was still hungry at the end of the tournament lah.

OOH did I mention I got a free pass to the gym for TWO MONTHS? Celebrity Fitness I think. Heheh, they won like 800bucks and 8 free passes and since they had only 6 players that day, I got one :D Thank you so much!

Finally, all assignments done and handed in. I’d like to just say thanks to all my teammates, in every subject. I had very efficient members and I’m glad we did not experience any rough patches at all throughout the process of completing our work :) The reason why I call them my teammates is because a team works together, a group is only a group of people. Learned that in HR class or something, heheh.

Time to buck up for Taxation now! Please please please let me go through this successfully, hahah. Dayan thinks it’s the easiest paper ever, pfft. But he’s doing ACCA so I guess there are far more difficult subjects if you compare them to Tax. Thanks a bunch to him as well because he practically pointed out everything for us to complete our assignment heheh :)

Gee this is like a thanking post or something hahah.

I believe that everything happens for a reason.
People change so that you can learn to let go.

Things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they’re right.
You believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself,
and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.
